When I say Science Fiction I mean that there is an educated human being writing it who is indeed very into the science of the whole situation. The only thing I did not like about this book was how much science was in it. I’m okay with a book that has science as a premise, but I felt it was over-done in this book. The author repeats concepts too much. I ended up skipping over bits just to get on with the story.

However, the premise of the story was interesting, the characters were all well developed and likeable and the story was generally fast paced. It’s a story based on the general premise that a virus has struck the human race, hitting parents and making mothers produce children that are alien to human children. The “New” or “Virus” children are much more peaceful and communicative than “regular” children. The have certain physical features and abilities that normal children do not have.

The book opens with a specific “New” child and her family, then switches to many integral players in the world situation, going back and forth between a young girl and the politics of the world she lives in. I found it fascinating and a true look at what the world would be like after such an evolutionary incident.

All in all, I’d recommend the book, but as I said, you may have to skip bits.
