Book Review: Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver
Book: Wolf Brother – Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Book 1
Author: Michelle Paver
Genre: Fantasy (YA)
Julia Rating: 10
Comments: I’m not normally a YA reader, indeed I didn’t realize I was reading YA until I bought the book off Audible, but I really enjoyed this book. Full of mystery, magic and wild intrigue, it hit that spot we all get to think like a child again – even if it’s just for a little while. Plus, the main character (named Torak) is pretty mature for a 12 year old, due to the wild environment he grows up in.
The basic premise of the book as that there is a possessed bear in the forest that Torak – with the help of a wild wolf he meets on the way – must defeat. If he doesn’t, the entire forest will die. He meets a young woman on the way, and discovers his own true nature. (I can’t get into it more than that or this would be a spoiler post).
A great, fantasy coming of age book, and a lot of fun to read/listen to – even for grown-ups. I recommend it if you are looking for a short read that’s fast-paced and magical. I seem to be reading more and more series lately – which is strange since I never used to ever read book series. I probably will end up reading more of Torak’s adventures in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Books. I guess we’ll see.
